Wednesday

Good morning,

Quote of the day:

It has been reported that Hillary Clinton will NOT run for President in 2016 because a brain tumor was discovered during a recent colonoscopy.”

                                 Dan “Sonofthebeach”

(A name of your choice is allowed to be substituted for Hillary)

A while back actress five time Oscar nominated actress Amy Adams was in line waiting to board a Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Los Angeles. Beside her in line was a US Army soldier. She chatted with the soldier briefly then turned and spoke with her traveling companion. When they boarded Amy spoke briefly with one of the flight attendants and they guided the soldier to Amy's first class seat and she went to the back and sat down in the soldier's assigned”economy class” seat. This restores my faith in show biz people somewhat. Can y'all see this happening with Jane Fonda, Sean Penn, Leonardo DeCaprio or Angelino Jolie? Amy's father was in the military and she was born in Italy.

Strange happenings in Africa: Your military advisers in the good ole US has given the Nigerian army several F-16's to help fight the invading al-queda bastards that are trying take over the country from the north. The bad part is that these fighter/bombers ain't exactly a Piper Cub. They are a handful for even seasoned fighter pilots because of their complexity, speed and maneuverability. No one in the Nigerian army has ever flown an aircraft of any kind. It will take years for a rookie pilot to conquer an F-16 and fly it to its full capabilities in combat. I can assure you that for quite a spell the pilots that fly these aircraft will not be Nigerians. I wonder who they will be?

Back in the early 1840's a large wagon train was assembled near St. Joseph, Missouri headed west. Included in this group was the Morgan family consisting of John, Jane and two children. Somewhere in Nebraska John got into an argument with the wagon-master and he chose to set off alone across the great plains which was a very bad move. They had four oxen. It was hot as hell making the spokes in the wagon wheels to shrink and the wheels became unstable not to mention the oxen needed water frequently and so did John, Jane and the kids. One one occasion they decided to back the wagon into a river in to allow the wagon wheel spokes to swell and tighten up. Since they were on the great plains they just turned the oxen loose and made camp. They knew the cattle would not stray far from water. The next morning John sent his son to find the oxen and drive them back toward the camp. He did not return right away so John went looking. He did not return right away and their teen aged daughter went looking. Soon Jane heard a scream from her daughter, grabbed an ax and went the direction of the scream. She soon found that her son was dead, her husband tied to a tree and had been scalped alive and her daughter was naked on the ground being gang-raped by a group of Pawnees. Jane went crazy as hell and with and ax ran into the crowd of Indians and killed whoever was near . The Pawnees retreated under this onslaught because it was obvious that this white woman was “touched”. Within just a few hours Jane's daughter and husband died and she as all alone on the prairie. A few days later she was discovered by a couple of trappers who were afraid of her insanity also but chose to help her. Through the “mountain telegraph” several other trappers showed up and they built Jane a small cabin near the river. Every night at sundown Jane would scream in her grief and did this every night for the rest of her days. The Indians and the trappers kept their distance because she was armed but occasionally the trappers would sneak in at night and leave her food. She lived by herself loudly keening every night for about 20 years but died one winter after a severe blizzard which prevented her from hunting. She starved to death. There is a historical marker near Jane Morgan's cabin site. I could not find out where she is buried. By the way, there is a place called Crazy Woman Creek, Wyoming.

This Date in History July 1

1863 Two months earlier the Army of Northern Virginia, CSA General Robert E. Lee commanding, even though being out-manned and out-gunned, routed the Army of the Potomac, US General Joseph Hooker commanding at small village named Chancellorsville, Virginia. Lee and CSA President Jefferson Davis decided that the war needed to be introduced to the northern states in the hope that the outcry of the citizenry would force Lincoln to the negotiation table. They also wanted the war out of battle weary Virginia. On June 3 Lee assembled about 80,000 troops and began a slow march northward. The Army of the Potomac, after discovering Lee’s movement, assembled an army of 100,000 and shadowed Lee always staying between Lee’s army and Washington. US General Joseph Hooker was still in command even after the disaster at Chancellorsville. About two weeks later Hooker got fed up with the meddling of those in Washington and resigned. He was replaced with US General George Meade. A Confederate scout detected the lead elements of the Yankee army as being just a few miles from Lee’s right flank. So Lee turned his army eastward down the Chambersburg Pike to meet this threat. On this day, elements of CSA General Harry Heth’s division of A.P. Hill’s Corp engaged the dismounted cavalry of US Colonel John Buford east of the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Even though Buford was reinforced by elements of US General John Reynolds Corp, they were severely outnumbered and fell back through the town and dug in on Cemetery Ridge south of town. This was the opening shots of the bloodiest three days of combat ever fought on the North American continent. Incidentally, US General John Reynolds was killed by a Confederate sniper very soon after joining the fray.

Quotable quote:

A conclusion is where you go to when you get tired of thinking”.

Maybe this world is another planet’s hell”.
